Exquisite Corpse Night at The Ghost
“We were at once recipients of and contributors to the joy of witnessing the sudden appearance of creatures none of us had foreseen, but which we ourselves had nonetheless created.”
-Surrealist poet Simone Kahn on playing Exquisite Corpse
Join Ghost Harbor founder Caroline on Thursday, 10/29 for a fun evening of Surrealist art and writing parlor games, including Exquisite Corpse:
Created by French surrealists in 1925, Exquisite Corpse is a composition method in which each participant takes turns writing or drawing on a sheet of paper, folding it to conceal their contribution, and then passing it to the next collaborator to contribute a section. The resulting creature is the “Exquisite Corpse.”
This game will unlock your creative energy through the Surrealist tenets of free play, unpredictability, and collaboration.
So come down to The Ghost on this late October eve! Revisit (or learn about for the first time) the surrealist writing/art movement, get inspired through collaborative experimentation, expand or disrupt your current creative process, giggle at the strange creatures we’ll create…and drink some wine! (if you are 21+.)
You don’t need to consider yourself an artist or writer to participate.
Masks required. Sanitizer provided. Caroline will facilitate the paper passing with gloved hands.
Space is extremely limited. (8 people max, but it may become a recurring event!)
Free.
Donations welcome.
